What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Originally designed for sharing headlines, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites and for retrieving specific information about selected topics. Through using a platform independent lightweight XML format, RSS complies with all systems with adequate software. Besides the short list of requested information, regular news feeds and the reduction of data traffic are the main advantages of the RSS feed.
What do I need to receive an RSS feed?
You will need a feed reader or news aggregator software to allow you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use. The software will notify you each time one of your subscriptions updates their content. You will receive a short notice as a headline, summary or as a short text. If you are interested in an article, you click on it and your browser will open it. Browsers like Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer Version 7 support RSS. Additionally, many web-based feed readers are available which are free of charge and easy to get started with since they do not require any specific software.
